В США Разрешены клинические испытания эмбриональных стволовых клеток

Двадцать третьего января американская компания Geron сообщила, что ею было получено разрешение на проведение первой фазы ограниченных клинических испытаний для пациентов с травмами спинного мозга. У компании за плечами большой опыт доклинических испытаний применения ЭСК в экспериментах на животных.

В клинических испытаниях примут участие от восьми до десяти пациентов. В зону повреждения спинного мозга им будут инъецированы олигодендроциты (вспомогательные клетки в центральной нервной системе), полученные из эмбриональных стволовых клеток. Исследователи надеются, что трансплантированные олигодендроциты образуют вокруг поврежденных нейронов миелиновые оболочки, необходимые для проведения нервных импульсов, а также окажут стимулирующее воздействие на регенерацию нервных клеток. По крайней мере, на животных были показаны именно такие эффекты [1].

Испытания планируется начать в семи американских медицинских центрах в начале лета 2009 года. Президент компании Geron Томас Окарма (Thomas Okarma) заявил, что начало этих испытаний «знаменует рассвет новой эры в терапии. Этот подход позволит в будущем отказаться от таблеток и скальпелей и достичь нового уровня в лечении».
